Air filter
From Quad Hub Wiki
The air filter prevents abrasive particulate matter from entering the engine's cylinders, where it would cause mechanical wear and oil contamination. The filter is usually found inside a plastic box connected to the carburetor or fuel injector with an intake tube.
Paper
Pleated paper filters are efficient, easy to service, and cost-effective and are used in some aftermarket replacement ATV air filters. The "paper" term is somewhat misleading, as the filter media are considerably different from papers used for writing or packaging, etc. Paper filters generally allow for better air flow than the foam-style. Cleaning requires a special cleaner, in aerosol or liquid form, and an oil.
Foam
Oil-wetted polyurethane foam elements are found in most ATVs from the factory. Foam filters generally do a better job at filtering the air than paper filters. Cleaning requires a special cleaner, in aerosol or liquid form, and an oil.
